Our Dance Classes

JAZZ

Jazz is the most diverse form of Dance, ranging from old musical styles of Jazz through to the modern styles you see on the latest top 40 video clips! The benefits of jazz dancing are endless. Flexibility, strength, coordination, balance and musicality are only some of the techniques Jazz dancing develops.

BALLET AND TAP

Dance to the Music is very keen to put our students through exams and maintain our 100% pass rate in our BAL examinations, it is understood that not all ballet and tap students wish to pursue this direction. These classes address the specific sequence of steps set down for examining by Ballet Australasia Ltd. While correcting technique is still a huge part, these classes do not expand on each movement directly, but the entire sequence of steps.

MODERN CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is very broad and creative, containing movements that are both static and dynamic, lyrical and athletic, that invert, twist expand, contract... the boundaries of contemporary dance are limitless! Contemporary dance develops a supple body that can move in many directions with control. This class is taught in bare feet to give the students contact with the floor which gives them security to move and "fall" at different levels. Pease bring a display folder to store diagrams and explanations.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop dancing is the perfect fusion of styles, incorporating jazz roots into a melting pot of hip hop, break, popping and locking, along with other fashionable dance genre. This class works to increase fitness, strength and flexibility through a range of easy exercises. The class also uses simple progressions and break down of various steps. This gives students the chance to learn great dance moves, develop a funky dance style and boost confidence.

CLASSES FOR OUR LITTLE ONES

Not forgetting our little ones, Dance to the Music has carefully considered our under 5-year-olds. We offer several specialist classes, designed to compliment the current NSW early learning curriculum. Each class develops the age appropriate skills and abilities, making full use of props, dance gamses and a never ending supply of Hi 5, wiggles & Nick Jnr music.

Age 2-3 "Toddler Class" (30 mins)

This class introduces our tiny's to ballet and jazz, focusing on movement skills, rhythm & musicality, and above all - the fun and enjoyment of dance.

Ages 3-4 "Pre School Dance" (40 mins)

This class caters for our older toddlers, exploring the basic techniques of Ballet, Tap and Jazz, through set routines and self improvisation.

Ages 5-6 "Beginner Dance" (1 hour)

This lesson breaks Ballet, Tap and Jazz into 20minute workshops. Building on the developing techniques and executions of each style, this class gives students the opportunity to appreciate each style before progressing to a higher grade - where each style is separated.

PERFORMANCE CLASSES - EISTEDDFOD CLASS

As students reach the required standard necessary for competitions they are approached by their teacher to see if they would like to start Eisteddfod work. Troupe work teaches the children team work, dedication and commitment, as well having a lot of fun by performing at many competitions and other functions throughout the year. Students in the Eisteddfod troupe are expected to attend two Jazz and Two Tap classes per week to maintain a high technique standard.
